America's Shield - 2014 (18 February 2014)

posted Feb 19, 2014, 7:16 PM by Ray Schnell
Members of the 263rd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, (AAMDC), from Anderson, S.C., arrived at McEntire Joint National Guard Base this week for the exercise, "America's Shield," to prepare for an upcoming year-long mission in Washington, D.C. The 263rd AAMDC's role is defending the country against terrorist attacks. The 263rd AAMDC serves as a supporting command to U.S. Army North (USARNORTH) for all Army Air Defense Artillery (ADA) missions as air and cruise missile threats to the Continental United States (CONUS) to include National Capital Region Integrated Air Defense System (NCR-IADS). The 263rd AADMC is currently commanded by Maj.Gen. Gregory Batts.

South Carolina Wing, Civil Air Patrol is providing aerial targets for equipment calibration and personnel training.   Flight profiles flown by CAP crews require precision in both routing and time-on-target to meet the AAMDC training requirements.   Crews from across SC and a select crew from NCWG will participate in this six day mission.   (Our role in America’s Shield is very similar to the requirements for DRE missions previously executed in the upstate.)

As reported by the Incident Commander, Col Jay Lindler.
