Raleigh, NC – Civil Air Patrol members from the 7 MER wings (Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia) as well as teams from Ohio and New Jersey have signed up for training programs covering air and ground emergency services.

Incident Commander, Lt. Col. John Henderson said that more than 200 members will begin registering at the command center at Fort Pickett, VA. on Friday, May 2. “Ft. Pickett is the training center for the VA National Guard and has hosted the past 3 MER-SAR Colleges. Classes will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 3 and will continue through Sunday May 4.”

The activity director for the program, Lt. Col. Jay Langley, noted that fair weather is expected through the weekend. “We anticipate this program will far exceed previous offerings in the number of members attending and the emergency service courses available,” Langley said.

Col. Larry Ragland, Commander of the Middle East Region said, “We have stressed over the past few years the need for operations and training that encompasses all region wings regardless of physical boundaries. From the interaction between all wings we benefit from the collective knowledge, experience and skills from this diverse geographical area.”

Ft. Pickett is located adjacent to the community Blackstone in eastern Virginia, approximately

40 miles West of Petersburg, VA.
