Dateline: 5/6/14 - Columbia, SC:  Hurricane season is here again, and the SC Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (SCWG CAP), is ready, willing and able to do all they can for the citizens of South Carolina.

During the week of June 1st to June 7th, 2014, the SC Wing flew its aircraft in excess of 60 hours in support, during the annual state-wide hurricane exercise.  These flights included both announced, and unannounced, missions created to stretch the limits of CAP and other state agencies to see how well they can work under extreme pressure and circumstances.

CAP personnel worked alongside the SC Air National Guard (SCANG) and others at the State Emergency Operations Center to assist in the management of all aircraft tasked during the multi-day exercise. As part of this process, CAP personnel worked to support  in the implementation of new state air branch management systems.

The SC Wing showed its ability to successfully deploy state-wide emergency communications systems necessary for successful response to a statewide disaster. Both cadet and senior members demonstrated their abilities to operate equipment upload real time information and establish effective communications to include mission photos and other critical information.

Col Francis Smith, Commander, SC Wing, said “this is the real world, I am proud of our members professional and effective response in support of our state and our fellow citizens”.

The SC Wing of the Civil Air Patrol (CAP), Auxiliary of the US Air Force, routinely conducts missions in support of the citizens of South Carolina. CAP’s three core missions are Emergency Services, Cadet Programs and Aerospace Education.  For more information about the SC Wing CAP contact Lt.
