16 August 2014 - Maj Gen Joe Vazquez assumed command of the Civil Air Patrol from Maj Gen Chuck Carr in a ceremony in Las Vegas,Nevada.  Brig Gen Larry Myrick was appointed as the new CAP Vice Commander, and Col Larry Ragland assumes the new role of CAP’s Executive Officer.

A little closer to home, Col Ray Lyon is the new Middle East Region Commander on an interim basis, as the selection committee for the permanent replacement for Col Ragland gets started.

Col Francis Smith said "It’s been an honor and a privilege to work for Gen Carr and Col Ragland for the last year and a half.  We’re very fortunate to have benefited from their outstanding leadership.  By the same token, we couldn't have asked for better successors.  Gen Vazquez is of course a past MER Commander and “back in the day” was a group commander in South Carolina Wing".

We are all very excited about the future of CAP under our new leadership.  As Gen Vazquez said this morning, "his command will be part of a continuing evolutionary process for the Civil Air Patrol", and we look forward to the South Carolina Wing being a big part of that.
